THE AICHI PROJECT
Leveraging off the 2005 World Expo
New Zealand Government funding support is enabling Sister Cities New Zealand Inc. to undertake an important task in “Utilising and Developing Citizens’ Diplomacy through the Sister Cities Network”. The Aichi Project as it is known specifically aims to further develop New Zealand's sister city-type relationships, using our paricularly extensive network of active links with Japan as the primary models and focus. This support has been made available through the Aichi Leveraging Fund, established to capitalise on New Zealand’s successful participation in the 2005 World Expo held in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Over 4 million people visited the New Zealand Pavilion during the six months of the Expo.
A primary aim of the Aichi Project is to document and share best practice in sister city exchange programmes.
