In 2012, a year after earthquakes struck the cities of Sendai and Christchurch, the Sendai Christchurch art exchange was born. The project was initiated to allow artists from Sendai and Christchurch to reflect on the tragic events of recent times, while lending support to one another and ultimately facilitating a revival of arts in both communities.

On September 6th a group of seventeen New Zealanders arrived in China as invited guests of the Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) to attend two Sister City conferences. The first was a Conference for Pacific Rim Countries in Changchun in Jilin Province in North West China and the second a World Conference in Chengdu in Sichuan Province in South West China.
The SCNZ delegation consisted of Jonathan Hooker of Masterton (Sister City to Changchun) Judy Livingstone and Bernard Duncan, Chairman of Christchurch China Sister City Committee and myself, representing the SCNZ Board. The remainder of the NZ delegation included ten representatives of the New Zealand-China Friendship Society led by Eric Livingstone of Christchurch and three members of the Maori-China Friendship Association led by Patricia Tauroa.

Bob Lee is on the hunt for New Zealand crayfish and chicken nuggets.
The Chinese businessman already imports a swag of Kiwi crayfish into Guangzhou via Australia and wants to cut out the middleman. He’s visiting Auckland next month to hold talks with local crayfish suppliers and also wants to import chicken nuggets through an existing processor or by building his own factory here.
